Six Miles Away

Review: This 4-piece band features Mike Hayllor (Rhythm Guitar, Harmonica, Vocals), Nick Farley (Drums), Dickie Hartt (Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals), and Don Maxwell (Bass and backing vocals). The name of the band, if you hadn't guessed already refers to the distance of the horizon from where you are. They play covers of tracks by artists such as David Bowie, Buffalo Springfield, JJ Cale, Johnny Cash, The Clash, Eddie Cochran, Cockney Rebel, Cream, Creedance Clearwater revival, Bob Dylan, Eddie & The Hotrods, Icicle Works, James, Kings of Leon, Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Travelling Wilberrys, U2, Velvet Underground, and Neil Young. They also play some of their own compositions. Sadly it looks as if this band is no more....but who knows.

Suki's Wish

Review: This 4-piece band has Henry Jenkins (Vocals, Acoustic Guitar), Charlie Ridler (bass Guitar, Vocals), Tom White (Drums and percussion) and Mike Spillane (electric & lead Guitar). They play mostly their own songs with a few covers. I was just starting to enjoy it, although the volume (at the Robin Hood, Guildford) was set for a venue twice the size, when one of the band thought it was a good idea to stick in a version of Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean" that had been shot with a tranquilliser. Apart from that it was a good set and the atmosphere was helped by the collection of the band's WAGs in the front row.
